I think it still matters how you meant it!

Not as much as how you interpret it.

So, lemme get this straight. I could completely miss how you meant that and you'd be okay with it? Isn't the point of an insult that somebody knows you insulted 'em?

Oh, he's done more than that. Thinking back on it and all, he always had a comment for Elmer even though it mostly flew over everyone's heads.

Well, I feel like he was a real softie deep inside and all, but he was able to do that in a town as bad as the one he was from. New York's better than there 'cause it's all opened up.

[Having spent the bulk of his life there, Firo can't quite grasp what Czes would be talking about. New York is just normal, whatever it is.]

Yeah. People go in and out all the time. New people bring in new ideas. People change. The city changes. Nothing stays long enough to rot the city. You know what I mean?

...I dunno. I've seen plenty a' things rottin' in the street.

Yeah, but you'll have to break a few legs and bend over backwards to get the entire city of New York to agree on something and hush it up.
