[And he's one of the few people that draws them out. But she smiles.]

[Especially so now that he knows she's happy here, too. His smile is genuine as he looks at her and scoots a little closer.

Between their feet in the spot where he'd been staring earlier, a red spider lily grows out from a crack in the steps and begins to bloom.]

[She kisses him on the cheek.]

Where are you and Susan living?

[Even now, he still flushes a bit when her lips touch his cheek.]

Don't know yet. But when I do, you should come over.

[She nods. Of course she's going to come and visit your Slugger.]

[Bit of a sigh as she looks over at the house in the making.]

I think it's just going to be me here.

[Unless people start coming back. But she hasn't seen anyone she knows from Mayfield yet.]

Even if it is, you're not alone. I'll be here.

[Daily. It doesn't matter that he doesn't have a house yet - he considers the entire town his home, much like he once considered an entire district of Tokyo his home.]

[He rests a hand on her shoulder reassuringly, then stands and wanders a short distance into the house. If she's going to live here, the place is going to need fixing up. Slugger looks toward the ceiling and focuses his creative energy on it to patch a hole.]

[She follows him inside and notices what he's doing. With a small smile, she focuses her own energy to fix a wall.]

[Slugger turns his attention to a gaping square hole in the wall which is soon filled with a pane of glass. Already, he can feel his power beginning to wane and so channels it toward fitting a door on the house to at least keep the wind from blowing in.]

I'm almost out.

[She nods and finishes the back wall. Well at least the house is sealed to the elements now.]

Me too.

It's enough for today.

[He's got enough energy left for one more thing. In his hand is a fat, wax candle which he sets in the middle of the floor. Come nightfall, she would have at least some light to fold paper by.

Speaking of paper, he has some left. From his backpack he pulls a notebook and tears out some blank, un-used pages from the back which he then gives to her.]
