Outskirts
Lucas sits and waits. ...He lies back on the ground and gazes upwards at the peacefully shining sun. For a good half-hour, he lies, motionless....
Until the sound of... something in the distance reaches his ears.
He sits up. ...A smile comes to his face as he recognizes the sound as that of barking.
"Boney! Over here!"
From the woods in the distance bursts a beloved friend he hadn't seen in almost three years - Lucas holds his arms out wide as the chocolate lab rushes towards him, barking excitedly. ...He had not, of course, recreated the pet he had owned back home. It would be too cruel to make such an intelligent dog leave behind everything they had gone through, everything their family had suffered. ...But a substitute was close enough.
"I'm going to make our new farm here...! This will be our home now... It's a nice place, isn't it? It's... peaceful."
They sit together quietly until the sun sets.
Re: Outskirts
But, when he see's his friend, the one who had made the right choice on bringing everyone back sitting off in the field with his dog. Well, Henry can't help but come over. He approaches Lucas before sitting down beside him looking out over the horizon.
He's silent for a few moments before he looks to Lucas.]
Thanks again, for helping me open that building.

Mm. It wasn't me, you know. It was all of us. At the very end...
That's how things should be from here now, I think...

[He looks back on the horizon once more.]
But, I agree. We got this far working together.
[There's a cheerful smile now on his face.]
I knew good would win in the end. It always does.

[Lucas agrees with a nod. Life wasn't quite that simple, but on the largest scale possible, regardless of what devastation and tragedies occurred... he believed strongly in the good in the hearts of humanity.]
There's nothing as powerful as... friendship. Hope and trust and love... All of it.
We'll be OK from here.

She sees a boy sitting off in the field and, for a fraction of a second, mistakes him for Ted.] Hey! Kid!

Hello!
...Sorry, am I in your way?
[Only Lucas would say something like that in the middle of a wide open field.]

But the day had worn on and there had been nothing but peace. Peace and tranquility, something that she had never truly experienced in Mayfield. There had been brief moments, yes, but nothing like this. This was different and while this place would never be home -- would never be the camp in the Whitefall Mountains, her sister's house, Sasha's arms -- it was the closest thing to it now and all things considered, there was nothing to complain about.
Her friends were safe. She was safe. They could have a life now, as close to a real one as possible, together.
There was still a part of Margot that longed for freedom, though; it always would and she would have to make do regardless. Restless still after the day of exploring and with a book tucked beneath one arm, she found herself at the outskirts of the town, gaze drifting to a familiar boy. A small smile tugged at a corner of her mouth as she made her way over, settling onto the grass beside him as the sun set.
One arm reached to wrap around Lucas' shoulders as she leaned to place a light kiss on the top of his head, one of the few actions of motherly affection she would ever allow herself. "We made it, kid."

Lucas sets his head snugly against Margot's shoulder without even looking up, his arms still wrapped tightly around the dog patiently settled on its haunches in front of him. Boney glances towards Margot and pants good-naturedly.
"Boney says hi. ...He also says you smell like ketchup." A brief pause. "I think that means he thinks you smell nice."
A slightly longer pause after that non-sequitur. "...Do you remember the drawings I used to do, Miss Margot?" The ones that were probably really awful, but that no one had the heart to tell him were awful. At least the ones back at the beginning. "I think I did one like this once. Just... relaxing. I don't think we've had peace in a long time."
no subject
At least she hoped that was a compliment in dog speak.
"'Course I remember," she said as she reached into her coat and pulled out a carefully folded up piece of paper. It was the drawing he had submitted to the newspaper ages ago of the the two of them drinking a malt; she had cut it out and kept it with her to the end. "We get to have peace now, though, and you can do more drawings. You can do whatever you want now."

Hey there!

Miss Harley...! It's been a while...
How was everything... at the end, there?
no subject
[She shrugs.]
Made it here, so I guess it wasn't that bad. How about you?

Lucas! Hey.

Hi! ...Yuna, right?
[He would stand up, normally, out of politeness, but his arms are wrapped so comfortably around Boney that he can't bring himself to, somehow...]
no subject
[She'll save him the trouble, sitting down next to him and tentatively reaching a hand out for the dog to smell.]
I just wanted to thank you... y'know, for before. On the blimp.

Dakki had been taking her own walk out in the wilds. If Lucas hadn't called Boney, hadn't spoken, she might well have tripped over him. She's quite happy that she didn't.
"That's... a very nice idea. A farm."
Coming on over, she smiles down to him, then hesitates a moment and sits herself down in the grass.
"Do you mind if I join you for a bit, Lucas?"
no subject
Lucas glances up with a smile. "I'm glad you're alright. And of course! Go ahead..." He would scoot over to make room, but there was rather a lot of it. "...You heard what I was saying just now?"
no subject
"This place will be a pretty good home, won't it? This isn't what I expected... but... I think I'm alright with it."
Then she lowers her head, bringing that happy smile roundabout in Lucas's direction. "What kind of farm will it be? One with animals? What do you think you'll grow?"

There you are. I was starting to worry you weren't here.

[He had been worried about the people in his family, too, but they hadn't been at home when he'd set out with the hovercraft... Lucas gets to his feet, releasing Boney for the moment.]
I'm glad you're OK. Is your family...?

[And you get a hug, because she was worried.]

Nice dog.

[Boney glances up towards Minato and barks once in a doleful sort of manner.]
Oh, he says, 'nice human'. ....Do you want to sit?
